OUM: Hello Hungary!!!

OUM added another feather to its cap with the enrolment of 20 postgraduate learners at its new learning centre in Hungary last month.

President/Vice-Chancellor Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali and Senior Vice President Prof Dr Mansor Fadzil journeyed to the city of Eger to witness the historic launch of the learning centre and registration of learners.

Through its strategic partnership with Eszterhazy Karoly College, OUM is offering two programmes – the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Information Technology (MIT) – to learners in Hungary. The inaugural intake saw 12 candidates enrolling in the MBA programme and eight in the MIT programme.

Prof Mansor says the College will adopt OUM’s blended learning approach in the delivery of the programmes. Learners will attend face-to-face tutorials, engage in self-managed learning by studying printed modules and take part in online learning by interacting with tutors and fellow learners.

Under the collaboration, the College will ensure the effective delivery of the programmes, selecting and appointing qualified academic staff, marketing programmes that comply with quality assurance measures and assisting in conducting examinations for learners.

“We are very excited about our venture in East Europe following our successful forays in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ghana and Maldives. OUM is the first university in Southeast Asia to establish a learning centre in Hungary; this is a feat we are very proud of,” says Prof Mansor.

The new learning centre, located in the confines of Eszterhazy Karoly College, has the potential to attract learners in view of its conducive environment, adds Prof Mansor.

“Learners in this intake have begun their studies. The next intake is expected to be in the first quarter of next year. From next year onwards, we are planning to add the fully online Master of Instructional Design and Technology to our list of offerings.”

Prof Mansor says the collaboration with the Hungarian college will pave the way for OUM to offer more programmes in future, particularly selected undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

OUM Proud to be Employer of Choice The University won the Silver Award for the Employer of Choice category during the 11th Malaysia Human Resource (HR) Awards 2011 last month, held at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Petaling Jaya.

The awards were in support of the Malaysian Government’s call to give due recognition to outstanding achievements by organisations and individuals in HR practices, thus encouraging employers to be more competitive, especially in attracting potential talents.

“This is the first time the University has submitted an application for the awards, and we are proud and honoured by this recognition,” said Kamariah Mohd Noor, Registrar/General Manager (Academic Administration), who received the award on behalf of the University. Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam presented the awards to the winners.

“We had to compete with 60 other companies, some of them multinational companies (MNCs) and governmentlinked companies (GLCs), so it is a pleasant surprise to know that we are among the best out there,” she added.

The criteria for the award included low turnover or rightsizing of employees, continuous learning and development initiatives for employees and the application of technology in HR for effectiveness and efficiency.

The other categories were HR Leader of the Year Award, HR Innovation Award and HR Breakthrough Award.

The award presentation and dinner were organised by the Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM) and jointly presented by JobStreet.com.
